4 & 5 Gallom House, Roath, Cardiff
The complete and extensive refurbishment of two former flats in a Victorian-era coach house in St Peter's Street for a private client.
This complete reimagination in the centre of Cardiff worked to what was a shell of a building, with exposed brickwork and areas of structural concern. The project comprised strengthening the walls using external support pillars and an inner skin where necessary, a new concrete floor, damp proofing, a new and modified roof, all new electrical wiring and plumbing, a metal wall cladding and insulation system, extensive sound and fire proofing between the floors, all brand new timberwork within, new staircase, new layout, new kitchens, new windows, and smart new external render over a complete jacket of insulation boards. The high-spec apartments now meet current standards for safety and comfort.
Overseen by Coast 2 Coast Building Control Limited and working to an exacting specification of Rhiwbina-based CLC with whom we enjoy a longstanding working relationship, this successful project – the second for this client – gave this decaying Roath building a spectacular new lease of life and created two new residences fit for 21st century living.
